Auto Parts Supplier Fined $4.5 Million For Bid-Rigging

A Japanese motor vehicle components supplier, Yamashita Rubber, pleaded guilty to participating in an international bid-rigging conspiracy and was fined $4.5 million by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. Yamashita participated in the Competition Bureau’s Leniency Program. According to the Competition Bureau, Yamashita conspired with another Japanese components supplier to rig bids for anti-vibration components and systems for certain Honda Civic and CRV models manufactured in Canada.

This marks the seventh guilty plea since the Competition Bureau’s large-scale investigation in the auto parts industry began in December 2009, bringing the total fines to just over $56 million.

See our summary table for all auto parts guilty pleas to date.
